The Western Australian electoral seat of Cottesloe is not just the suburb, it’s an electorate that contains eight suburbs!  Did you know that the seat includes:  North Fremantle, Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove, Cottesloe, Swanbourne, Claremont, Mt Claremont and City Beach South?

History

In 1886, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, John Forrest, announced his intention to subdivide an area of land between Perth and Fremantle.  He asked Governor Sir Frederick Napier Broome to suggest a name.

"Cottesloe" was named after Thomas Francis Fremantle, Lord Cottesloe, first Baron of Swanbourne and the older brother of Captain Charles Fremantle who, in 1829 raised the first British flag at Fremantle.
